Tasting – Epic Pale Ale

A rare treat this time : a young gentleman that visited Midd… New Zealand was very nice and brought me a bottle from literally the other side of the planet. And not just any bottle, an epic one!

Appearance: A clear amber body that pours with a finger wide white head. A nice looking beer.

Smell: Slight citrus smell with overtones of hop spicyness. Sweet caramel malt. Some Cocoa.

Taste: Biscuit malt, caramel and a slight cocoa end-note. Beautifully balanced, clean fermentation character.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, very drinkable with medium carbonation.

Notes/thoughts: I was expecting a hop bomb but this beer really surprised me with a very nicely balanced taste and a refreshing drinkability. The nose is nice but not in the vein of american hop-bombs. I really enjoyed this beer, shame that I very likely won’t get another one.
